We translate thousands of words daily using CAT tools. There are tons of programs to aid us during translation that we can choose from. Some of them are open-source, for others we have to pay and there are some which are offered on a subscription basis. However, we are now faced with a new type of utility which has been presented to us as the answer to all our problems, for both customers and service providers alike: The Cloud.

Any true translator must certainly feel sick at his or her stomach to hear translation being spoken of as a commodity.

There is nothing new about the idea that words are not all there is to reality, but that reality often cannot be changed without them.

'Lay people' tend to have a whole lot of weird, unsubstantiated and simply harmful views on translators. Taken away all wrongful misconceptions (like earning much for not doing anything, etc.) there's still plenty of myths about translators that you can come across. Those listed below are taken from my own experience: believe it or not, at some point of my career I've actually heard (or seen) people making these statements.
